Description

The group of Animal Production Systems group of Wageningen University and Research explores synergies and trade-offs between environmental impacts, biodiversity, economic viability and animal welfare when implementing innovations, management strategies and policies in farm and food systems with livestock, to eventually increase sustainability. To meet this aim, the group uses a range of methods, including modelling and biodiversity assessments

Role in the project

The main role of Wageningen University & Research in GrassConnect is to assess the synergies and trade-offs associated with different grassland-management strategies on Dutch dairy farms.

The assessment covers sustainability indicators including greenhouse-gas emissions, farm economics and biodiversity and is supported by a farm-optimisation model.

WUR coordinates the Dutch MAGHub and contributes to the project’s modelling activities.
