Description
VITO, or the Flemish Institute for Technological Research, is a leading independent research organization based in Belgium, founded in 1991. It focuses on sustainable technology development in fields such as energy, materials, chemistry, environment and health. VITO aims to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world by providing innovative technological solutions and scientific advice to businesses and governments. The institute conducts interdisciplinary research and collaborates with industry, academia, and the public sector to address major societal challenges, including climate change, biodiversity decline and resource scarcity.
Role in the project
Within WP2, VITO is responsible for identifying, developing and validating relevant indicators for regulating and cultural ecosystem services at farm and landscape levels.
VITO also designs digital solutions for monitoring ecosystem extent, condition and services. These solutions use Earth Observation data as inputs to process-based models for ecosystem-service assessment.
